Deconstruction: Production Companies

Deconstruction: Production Companies

All films are produced by production companies as it aids extra capital. Usually there is a large production company and a smaller one. I will be deconstructing a groups production company titles in which they made themselves.

"WATERSHED PRODUCTIONS"

The titles are introduced by a fade from black. There is a quiet low toned buzz as the 'blood' begins to disperse in the water. There is one louder dripping sound as more drops of 'blood' fall into the water.
The titles "WATERSHED PRODUCTIONS" appear with the clip, from the beginning. They shake slightly and have a low quality effect making the text look pixelated (Shown in the image below).  The text only moves from side-to-side and does not change position on the screen.

The audience can assume it is a high angled shot of a bath, the camera is still and it is all one clip. The titles are 3 second long, and after 2 seconds the titles play backwards. The 'buzzing' sound gets louder and there is another dripping sound, more high pitched than the one before. The speed is increased as it is replayed backwards, causing a good effect as the 'blood' begins to fade from the water.

The typography is quite simple. The font is white, and shows up easily on the red within the water. The title is in capitals and takes up the width of the screen, making it easy to read. The font has no characterisation and could be a simple default font.

I like the editing of the titles as the backwards repeat is an effective editing technique, we could use this in our final piece as I believe that it works well here and in my practice editing experiment. As the sound and typography are simple, more attention goes onto the 'blood' in the background, which also is a good effect.
  • The clip would have been easy to film as it is one shot, all of the good effective occur during editing.
  • The titles doesn't show much skill, although the editing is good, there is little creativity.

"FLURRYFISTS"

The titles start on a black background. The blue 'crystals' move downwards from the centre, they shuffle around from left to right while moving from the top of the screen into the centre. There is loud sound in the background resembling a storm, as there is audible rain and thunder.

The crystals rearrange to form the "FLURRYFISTS PRESENTS" in the centre of the screen. The titles have a slight glow which adds to the modern feel. The size of the text is quite small and only takes up about half of the width of the screen. I don't think this is good effect and I believe the titles could be bigger as with the glow they are quite hard to read. The font is also quite modern, it's bold but also has thinner sections in each letter.

The outward transition of the titles is a repeat of the way they came in which would be done through editing.
The sound of a storm continues throughout the titles. As the titles fade to the top of the screen again the music from the film opening begin to fade in.

  • I like the effect the titles make as the glow and typography work well together. The titles were made on photoshop and editing software which shows good skill with both of these.
  • I don't think the sound and titles go, having better sound that links to the modern feel would improve the titles.
