Inspiration for Religious Talk - Bailey May

Inspiration for religious talk

In part of our film there are split sections of our victim in a ritual scenario due to the possessed girl. As a result of this to enhance our films quality we are planning to add non-diegetic dialogue to the scenes.

Inspiration
The Possession

In the opening scene of The Possession the possessed box with the demon inside speaks in Hebrew with a demonic semantic field.
With regards to our film this is a great example of how use demonic religious speech for a eerie, uneasy effect on the audience.
This is due to the audience not knowing what the demon is exactly saying but with what happening on screen they can get a reasonable idea of whats said.
I think by the audience not knowing what is said it creates suspension and frighting atmosphere for the audience as most people are scared of what they don't know.

The Exorcist

Compared to The Possession, the religious talk is from the priest performing an exorcist which involves reading specific passage from the bible.
The repeated phrase is 'the power of god and Christ compels' which i feel we can use and adapt to sound unsettling in our film.
For our film, we would have the possessed character saying this phrase in a humorous but angrily manner which will create an unsettling feel for the audience as you associate laughing in the face of demons and possession.

In conclusion, both portray different ways on how to utilise religious/demonic speech in out film and from these we can work on and adapt aspects from both to enhance our film.
