Recording
We recorded many of the scenes more then once as we wanted to improve with our transactions between the scenes.
When picking up the jacket from the floor we recorded the same scene in three different locations with three different angles. Our actor had to ensure that he used the same footing and motions in every take allowing us to crop the videos together. In Final Cut Pro we were able to place all three pieces of footage together to show the same action in motion but from different angles.
Equipment
This is our preliminary video in which we created, we were told to show match on action, the character walking across the room and then have a conversation with another person.
Tripods
In the opening scene we used a hand held over the shoulder shot which continued in to a rotating pan shot of the main character about to enter the room. When filming this scene we had to retake the footage several times due to the camera not being steady enough and having some shake from where we were holding it, we wanted to reduce the shake as much as possible and created a hand held camera frame which helped to reduce the amount of shake in our footage for when we needed to move with the camera. However, we also used a simple tripod to be able to keep the camera in place, it ensured that the camera was stable and did not move when filming scenes where the camera can remain stationary.
The Slow Motion Scene
As this is our preliminary work we are not familiar with the editing software, therefore we chose to take advantage of the equipment that we had access to and that we knew how to use. During the slow motion scene we used an iPhone to record which we then added in later.
Sound
We used non-diegetic music in the background instead of the original sound that was recorded with the video. The use of the James Bond theme tune made the video seem more professional as there was no muffled sounds in the background such as giggling and people moving around. We chose the James Bond theme music as it corresponded with our theme though it did add to the comedy element of our video.
When editing the music with the video we made sure that the music was parallel to the video, for example during the action scene of him jumping on the table the music changed in pace.
Editing
During the editing time we had we placed all the shots in to the order that we wanted them, once the videos where in order we were able to crop the videos in to place so that the footage flowed together. This was most difficult during the opening of the door and the picking up the jacket scenes. This is due to the fact that we had to make sure that the videos where cropped as best we could so that the motion looked as if it was one action.
Evaluation
- When making our preliminary video we came across some issues, in the first scene our actor was too tall and this made it very difficult to film an over the shoulder shot and moving with the character while keeping the camera steady. We did not have access to anything that could keep it steady so we had to use the tripod and hold it at the bottom of the legs to reduce shaking the camera.
- We had to film over two days as we did not get all the filming complete within the short time we had. when filming on the second day our characters did not have the same clothes as the day before. This made it very difficult as we had to make sure that the audience would not be able to see the difference.
- Sound was another issue we came across. Though we were in an empty room there was still some un wanted sound in the background. Not only this however the dialogue was a really bad quality.
