Film Age Ratings

In order to fully understand our target audience, we must first know what age rating our film is. As a supernatural horror, it must involve or hint at a supernatural force or character but not contain huge amounts of gore. Additionally, the narrative of the film is much more complex than that of a slasher or house horror as it can also include elements from psychological horror in order to evoke a macabre atmosphere within the audience.

Due to the special effects and violent themes, I would expect all horror movies to be rated 12 or above.

  • Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail
  • No emphasis on gory violence
  • Weapons that are easily accessed by 12 year olds (e.g. knives) should not be glamorized
  • Moderate physical and psychological threat is allowed as long as the threat is infrequent and the overall tone is not disturbing
  • Examples include: The Hole (2010), The Shadow of the cat (1971), The Last Will And Testament Of Rosalind Leigh (2012)
