Age Ratings
In regards to the film industry, age ratings deter the minimum age for the audience who wish to watch the film in the cinema or buy the film which is set by the British Board of Film Classification. As a result of this, themes and target audience have to be properly discussed to ensure the film attracts its correct target audience.
What are the Age Ratings and where would my product place?
PG (Parental Guidance) classifies the film for general viewing but for the viewing of yonng children due to its mild content.and not having any content that would upset a child.
Our product, under these circumstances, would not be classified as PG due its genre not applying to general viewing while also containing traumatic events that may upset younger audiences.
12A and 12 ratings classifies a film to be not suitable for the viewing of children under the age of 12 and the 12A means the adolescent must be accompanied by an adult.
In regards to our film opening, it most likely wouldn't be classified as 12 nor a 12A due to its frequent horror and horror related scenes which wouldn't be suitable for an audience younger than 15. Also our film does dewell on the violent parts so this is another case where our product would exceed this age classification.
15 age rating merely states no one under the age of 15 can view/buy a film classified as 15. This is due to a film having: frequently strong language, sexually nudity, strong violence and strong frequent horror scenes as long as its not sadistic or references to sexual violence.
As a result, our film product fits perfectly into this classification as it is a horror film, thus has frequent horror scenes. Also the actors of our film are 17 which is an appealing age for this classification group. Moreover, due to current trends in the horror industry, we have identified a large number of audiences are in this classification which film makers have targeted so we decided to follow the prompt.
